,It    ' Page 2 HOMETOWN HAPPS II !1 By Gaynell Delay 1[ Dale and Peggy Crumb of Dodge , City spent last week with Sylvan and Mary Harris. Glenwood Lundberg spent a few days visiting in the Wichita area last week, where he had an appointment at the VA Clinic for repairs with his' hearing aid. Then on Friday evening he; and Lois attended the appearance of country music singer Loretta Lynn at the Orpheum Theater in down town Wichita which was a full house. Loretta is active as ever, but this time the amazing 75 year ol Loretta sat in a chair instead of standing as she did in the previous appearance Glenwood attended. Gary Jensen and Mr. and Mrs. Allan Jensen went to Topeka Friday, August 13 for the wedding of Jessiea Jensen and Dillon Shofsner. Joyce Hedstrom, Delbert Johnson and Lyle Bergstrom went with The Pope's People Sunday and sang at the Lovewell Lake Church and then went to the Methodist Church in Superior and sang. Jessica Jensen's 9 th birthday and Brooke Jensen's 15 th birthday were celebrated together on Sunday, August 15 th at the home of Kevin, Sheila, Brady, Brooke and Ben. Also attending were Kirk and Steph Jensen, Cody, Casey, and Jessica, and Darlene Jensen. The Courtlanddournal August 19, 2010 i Taylor Turns 18 Wednesday,. Aug. 18 th Norway News II By Marilyn Sorenson i i The Norway Coffee Ladies enjoyed lunch at El Puerto in ! Concordia on Tuesday. Those able ::: to attend were; Margaret Reece, :: Helen Norris, Opal Thompson, : Belva Morgan, Pat Jensen, Elaine Plowman,- Eleanor Zahn and Marilyn Sorenson. Jim Norris and " Jerry Sorenson also enjoyed lunch and visiting Margaret Reece and Bobbi Klima attended the fair on Friday. Marilyn Soreuson spent - Monday evening at the home of Dallas and Nancy Nading, :- Concordia. Along with Gene : - Johnson they worked on planning the Lions District Convention to be held in Concordia next March. Do Nothings By Shirley Johnson An afternoon of a movie and dinner was enjoyed by the Do Nothings Thursday., August. 12. Nadine Adams was the day's planner and driver to Salina for our get-away. Pat Dtming, Betty Bouray, and myself happily rode along and in Salina we met up with Pat Pounds, who now lives in Salina. We all had a lively chit chat catching up on family news and other matters. No, we didn't gossip; we just shared interesting tidbits. Central Mall had several movies to choose from but we decided to "Dinner With The Scmuck's."I thought it was fairly slow through most of the show but then it picked up speed and got really funny. My granddaughter, Averie, had seen it and thought the .... movie had gotten out of the driveway but didn't go much .... further.-I thoughtit had a lot of car ttruble for a long time, but once ". ihey ftxd"the fuel pump, it took off "like afice dar and fortunately didn't crash at the end. We did a little shopping before and after the 4:00 movie, so we had worked up a hearty appetite for dinner at Coyote Canyon. Betty got to .choose since we were also celebrating her and Pat Pound's birthdays, which were August 5 th. Our capable waitress was a small person with a willing attitude and a lively personality. We learned she was dealing with new bifocals and having quite a time adjusting to them. Being a crochetoholie we got a first hand demonstration of her situation. She really didn't need to explain anything to any of us though as all : of us are visually challenged one way or another. After enjoying our meal we said ,our  good-byes to Pat. and headed for home. A quick stop for milk and we put the finish on another great day. Taylor Thompson Taylor Krystyne Thompson, 18, is the .daughter of Danielle Thompson and Jeffrey Burnham. Tristan Jo,. I 1, is her sister and Tre Daniel, 5, is her brother. Taylor is the granddaughter of the late already- received 18. hours of college credentials from Cloud County Community College. She is now enrolled in classes and will start at Butler County Community College on the 23 rd of August in E1 Dorado. She will be majoring in Danny Thompson, and also Gary vocal performance and production. and Marsha Jensen.. Great- grandparents are Andy and Esther Thompson and Dale and the late Doris Brown; and Max Burnham and Maurice and Kathy Strecker. Taylor is a recent graduate of Pike Valley High School and has Taylor also has an interest in dermatology and fulfilling a life- long dream of finding a cure for psoriasis, an arthritic-box skin disease causing extremely dry skin. She herself has suffered from this since she was a real young girl. We Love You Brody and Brailynn Carlgren Turn Ten On Sunday, August 1, 2010, Brailyn and Brody Carlgren celebrated their 10 th birthday with cake and ice cream at the Courtland Community Center. The event was hosted by their parents, Troy and Allison, and brother, Dawson. Attending the Tie Dye and Farmall themed party were' Ivan and Aileen Carlgren and Robert and Emily Carlgren all of Norway; August Birthday and/00nniversaries Celebrated The birthdays of Judy Blackburn, Janet Nelson, Elner Langston and Janet (Mrs. Allan) Weir and the anniversaries of Dean and Anita Sothers and Harold and Betty Brown were recognized. Attending the 5:30 supper at the Courtland Senior Center were Shirley Hyde, Beverly Hyde, Dale and Eileen Erickson, Beverly Sothers, Paul and Beverly Freeman, Harold and Betty Brown, Sam Brown, Carlo Johnson, Eldon Rytych, Beryl Thomas, Charles and Gaynell Delay, Jim Todd, John and Judy Blackburn, Darlene Jensen, Phyllis Mahin, Janet Nelson, Randy Erickson and Amy and the hostesses for the evening: Alene Lundberg and Elner Langston. The September meeting will be hosted by Eileen Erickson and Darlene Jensen. It's A Girl Mr. and Mrs. Ric Voelker, Concordia, are the parents of a baby girl, Elexzia ZyUe born Friday, July 9, at Salina Regional Health Center. She weighed 71bs. 12oz. and was 19" long. JtInction, Colorado. i REPUBLIC NEWS by Virginia Petersen I Mike and Jean Charles spent Saturday in Alton, Kansas and attended the wedding reception for' Mr. and Mrs. Jim Yoo, who is Jean's grand niece. Oleta Hobson attended the Bratton Union High School Reunion at Humboldt, Nebraska, visited her sister, Harold' and Alta Wagner several days the past week. James and Elaine Spafford were .with her several days and attended the Belleville Fair. Ilene Aurand called on Evelyn Sweet one day last week and on Sunday Ward and Ilene were among those attending the Fangmeyer Reunion at Hebron, Nebraska. Weekend guests of Kent and Cathy Chase were Butch and Jeanette Albers, Ransom, Kansas. They and Virginia Petersen accompanied Cathy to the Lovewell Lake Church on Sunday. The music was provided by Greg and Donna Diamond and the Rev. Danny Jackson delivered the message. There approximately 35 in attendance. Jim and Evel2}n Hurley were in Hebron Sunday to attend Eleanor Rizek's 80  birthday Celebration. Vida Boman accompanied Paul and Vickie Osborne to Wamege. Sunday to help Chad Osborne celebrate his birthday. Next meeting will "'be  in Belleville September 13 th. Darlene Jensen hosted MNO Courtland Crusiders met August- 13 at the Community Hall with Beverly Hyde as hostess. Twelve members answered roll call with memories of school days. Treasurer report was given and minutes of last meeting read. Shirley Hyde presented a bill for the engraving of names on the Memorial Plaque. !damay reported on Fun Day and extended the thanks from the 4-H group for our contributions to their Bake Walk. The Highway 36 days were discussed and it was decided we woult have a bake sale at the Coffee Shop on Saturday, September 18. The next meeting will be September 10 th with Janet Nelson as hostess. More pencils are made in the U.S. than in any other country. Bridge Club along with her other bridge club at PINKY's Monday evening at 6:30. Glenn and Phyllis Hofts were 'guests of Ward and Lori Heitmarm at a supper honoring JoAnn Egger for her birthday. Other guests were Kenny and the honoree,  JoArm Eggers, Max and Ruby Eggers, Alice Eggers and Reuben and Gladys Schleifer. Kent, Betty andDillon spent the past week'at the NCK Fair. Republic UM Bible School was celebrated at Lovewell Lake with the theme, Crocodile Dock under the direction of Betty Bouray and Marilyn Aurand. Attending were JJ Imler, Bernice, Jose and Sophia Gray, Jaren Aurand, Kayson Dietz, Jena Kunc, Michelle and Kerry Picha. Helpers during the night were Betsy Reed and Kent Swartz(AKA) Pharon, Roger and Jean Walls. Lessons were given and As, Crafts and songs were enjoyed.
